The course will give each participant
a knowledge - artistic, technical, and historical - of bronze casting.
We will consider the relation between the forms of a cast sculpture
of any period and the basic characteristics of the culture it belongs
to. The class explores moulds in plaster, silicone and clay. It
will then engage in making wax models, and the finishing of the
cast.
Next the course will deal with the investment
type of refractory mould, its heating, the pouring of liquid bronze,
sanding, chasing, to close with various types of patina. Various
shaping materials will be used such as gesso, gomma siliconica.
Students can bring their models (small
size are reccomended).
