The course offers the opportunity to
acquire deeper knowledge of different sculptural methods, technical
and also theoretical. It explores the human figure in all its
anatomical and expressive diversity, as well as animal and inanimate
forms. Students will model analytically from the life model, in
the round and in bas-relief, with special focus on the dynamics
of the body in space.
A further concern of the course is
the design and development of sculptural ideas. We believe that
scuplting means (among other things) understanding line, rhythm,
volumetrics, and the object's placement in a visual space (interior
and exterior). Students will work on the imaginative transformation,
the reinvention of observed forms. They will handle and experiment
with various materials, and analyze structures and supports. Various
tecniques will be experimented: modellatura in argilla, in cera,
in gesso; formatura in gesso a forma persa.
Students can bring their models (small
size are reccomended).
