ITS Istituto Toscano di Scultura is located
in Tuscany. It has an Art Workshop in Ponte
Buggianese (Pistoia). Ponte Buggianese is the hub of a notable
agricultural region, related to the draining of marshes effected
in the 18th century by the marquis Ferroni and by Grand-Duke Pietro
Leopoldo de' Medici. The town is located inside the Valdinievole,
a green oasis in the heart of Northern Tuscany.
The Valdinievole, located in the center of Tuscany,
allows to reach in a short time the most important cities of Tuscany
such as Firenze, Lucca, Pisa, Pistoia, Viareggio (and the Tyrrhenian
Sea). The area is easily reached by car (A11 highway, Montecatini
Terme or Chiesina Uzzanese exits) or by train (Florence - Lucca
- Viareggio line).
Montecatini Terme, the valley's chief town - in the Pistoia
province as well - is famous for its spas, among the most
renowned, fashionable and popular in all Italy, as well as its art
nouveau buildings. Other places in the Valdinievole area of
interest for their landscape, history or art, include Pescia, with
its notable historic center and the many nurseries around it (Pescia
hosts an international Biennale or biannual exposition of floriculture);
many charming small towns with important olive groves and vineyards
dot the hills; and two areas of special importance in historical
and environmental terms: the marsh of Fucecchio and the lake of
Sibolla.
Thanks to its vicinity to the Appennines, the
Valdinievole enjoys a mild climate as well as a good water table,
which help to explain the rich variety of birds and fishes and the
flourishing agriculture and nurseries in the area.
